#ServetVI moves forward: Escola Virolai in Barcelona uses cameras and filters to analyse images

So far they have used low-end mobile phones that do not have infrared filters

The team still needs to test the platform they will use on the probe

Escola Virolai, in Barcelona, presents the scientific project “Measuring the water stress of the land with the NDVI technique” with which they will take part in the #ServetVI launches in spring 2022.

Our project is part of a broader project on space exploration and we are carrying it out as planned. So far we have been more involved with a study of the history of space exploration, discoveries and missions. We have analysed the conditions of the atmosphere and near space. As for the stratospheric probe part, we are studying the NDVI technique to apply it to our probe. For this we have been testing different cameras and filters and analysing the images using the public tool Infragram.

The drawbacks we face are the right combination of filter and camera. As for cameras, for now we have been using low-end mobile phones that do not have infrared filters. What we still have to do is test the platform we will use on our probe, a Raspberry Pi and a Raspi Cam NoIR camera.

For now things are turning out as we planned.
