The #SERVET Project,
honourable mention at the
European Citizen Science Prizes 2025
The European Union Prize for Citizen Science recognises the work of projects that encourage citizen participation to advance knowledge.

Modelling the ascent speed of a sounding balloon
Josep Curto Lapeira explains how temperature and atmospheric pressure affect the ascent speed of a sounding balloon through a mathematical model based on basic sensors.

Two balloons carrying citizen science experiments travelled 120 km from Calamocha to the Sierra de Alcubierre
The first balloon reached 32,251 metres, the second 32,658 metres bursting south of Fuentes de Ebro

#SERVETX is here.
Citizen science in the stratosphere for schools
The tenth edition of the #SERVETX launches is aimed at schools across the country that want to send a scientific experiment to the stratosphere.
During the school year, the teams from each selected school will work on developing their scientific proposal, which will be launched and put into operation at a national event in spring 2024.

How the #SERVETIX launches went: science at 30,000 metres
The citizen science project adds another success with the launch of two helium balloons carrying experiments by citizen scientists.
They took off from Mallén (Zaragoza) at almost 12 noon and took an hour and a half to touch down near Barbastro (Huesca)

Servet IX will launch 14 citizen science projects to the stratosphere from Mallén on Saturday 28 October
We will launch two large helium balloons that could exceed 30,000 metres in altitude
The municipality of Mallén in the Campo de Borja county has been chosen as the launch site

The #SERVETIX edition
is ready.
Meet the participating experiments
Nine scientific experiments will head for the stratosphere in the ninth edition of the SERVET launches, which will take place on 28 October 2023 near Zaragoza.
These experiments have been developed by the Spanish maker community and will put their creators’ technical knowledge to the test.

How the #SERVETVIII launches went
14 scientific experiments from all over Spain cross the Aragonese stratosphere at more than 28,000 metres.
The eighth edition of the Servet citizen science project launched on 15 April 2023 a balloon carrying 14 experiments made by students from all over the country from the town of Ejea de los Caballeros, in Zaragoza.
