IES Vilafranca in Castellón presents the scientific project with which they will take part in the #ServetVI launches in spring 2022.

We are currently working on the physical design of the project. We have obtained the necessary materials: latex balloons, an Arduino temperature and humidity sensor, the reader for this sensor, the memory card and the polystyrene box where the card with the reader will be protected.

The design consists of putting the sensor, protected with foam (so that its corners do not puncture the balloon), inside the balloon through a tube via the balloon’s mouth. The mouth of the balloon is then closed with a stopper with two holes and tightened with a clamp. The sensor’s power and data cables come out through one of the holes, which is then sealed with silicone, and the other hole will be used to inflate the balloon at launch time (and will also be sealed afterwards).

In addition, we have the polystyrene box in which we will place the Arduino board, the power supply (9V battery) and the memory card (micro SD) where the data are stored. This box is filled with shock-proof plastic to protect the various devices. The cable carrying the data from the sensor to the reader is attached to a stronger metal cable to prevent it from breaking. In parallel, the group of students is developing the control program with Arduino Blocks.
