In this video the team from IES Granadilla de Abona in Santa Cruz de Tenerife tell us about the progress of their scientific project. The launch will take place in April.
About the experiment
IES Granadilla de Abona in Granadilla, Tenerife, presents its mission related to the prevention of forest fires:
Unfortunately, fires in the Canary Islands devastate thousands of hectares every year. Without going any further, the most serious fire in the Canary Islands happened this past summer.
A large amount of human resources take part in firefighting, and in many cases it takes several days to bring fires under control and put them out. A fundamental tool for early detection and control of fires is satellites, as they provide a global, real-time view of forest fires and allow a faster and more effective response.
There are currently several satellites that perform these functions, but we wanted to add a new ingredient to make working with them easier. That is why our mission will analyse photos in real time with the help of artificial intelligence, looking for possible fires as well as water resources to respond to them
