The #SERVETVII projects: David Cuartielles’ probe

Progress at IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal

We present each of the citizen science experiments that will be taken to the stratosphere in the #SERVETVII launches, in autumn 2022. The #SERVETVII projects: David Cuartielles’ probe.

Our plan is to test the reliability of industrial-grade computing equipment under extreme conditions of temperature and mechanical movement. We want to mount three boards (of less than 40 g each) performing synchronised operations and recording the data on an SD card. In parallel, we will send data by radio to confirm that the experiment is following the expected results. The boards to be used would be an Arduino Portenta H7 with dual core, an Arduino Nicla Vision with an embedded camera and industrial Bosch sensors, and an Arduino Portenta X8, with 9 cores across 2 processors.

The whole system is powered from a high-mAh rechargeable battery, which is the heaviest piece of the whole set. I hope to design a board to place all the electronics in a single piece inside the container. In addition, we will add a u-blox GPS rated for 1 g.
