In this video the team from Institut Escola Daniel Mangrané in Tortosa (Tarragona) tell us about the progress of their scientific project. The launch will take place in April.
About the experiment: EstratoPila Mission
This is the description of the project presented by IE Daniel Mangrané (Tortosa): EstratoPila Mission: studying the life of batteries in the stratosphere.
This project has two aims. The main one is to analyse the effect of the temperature and radiation conditions of the stratosphere on the performance of some batteries, by comparing the discharge curve of the batteries that travelled in the capsule with that of batteries that have not been exposed to these extreme conditions.
The secondary aim is to analyse fabrics of different materials to check how far they protect us from low temperatures. To do this, we will place 3 temperature sensors covered with sleeves of different fabrics. After the launch, using a voltage sensor, we will discharge a battery that has travelled to the stratosphere, without any thermal protection, and another that has not, and with these data we will calculate the discharge curve to check whether there are differences between them. For the second investigation, we will analyse the data from the temperature sensors recorded on an SD card.
