The I3A of the University of Zaragoza and the Ibercivis Foundation, in collaboration with FECYT-Ministry of Science and Innovation, announce the launch of the ninth edition of the Servet project.
Servet IX offers citizens the opportunity to take part in designing and building capsules that will be launched to the stratosphere. No specialist knowledge is required, only skills related to the maker universe and an interest in astronautics, space navigation or the Internet of Things.
Servet is a citizen science project that carries out near-space experiments. These experiments are launched on sounding balloons to the stratosphere and are designed by citizens, whether in schools, associations or as individuals. Participants are responsible for setting and carrying out their own scientific challenge.
In Servet IX a total of 8 scientific experiments will be launched. The launch is scheduled for 28 October (subject to favourable weather conditions) near Zaragoza.
Key dates:
- Until 7 August: Registration with an application report, by filling in the form with the details and a summary of the mission.
- 8 August: Announcement of accepted applications
- 6 October: Pre-launch update, sending a brief summary of the mission, changes and other technical data: estimated weight, use of radio…
- Launch!: 28 October (date subject to change depending on the weather)
Through the Servet project, participants have the opportunity to experience every stage of a scientific stratospheric project, from choosing the mission objectives to designing the probe, integrating components, testing the system, preparing the launch and analysing the data obtained.
Servet has the support of the Ibercivis Foundation, the University of Zaragoza through the Aragon Engineering Research Institute (I3A), Etopia Centre for Art and Technology, the CESAR Laboratories at Etopia and the Spanish Radio Amateurs Union, and is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science and Innovation.
