We have opened the call for you to sign up your class for #ServetVIII with this form and to develop your scientific project together, ready to send it to the stratosphere in spring 2023. You have until 30 September.
If you like the idea of working on this project in the classroom but are not sure what to do, here are some pointers:
– For the moment, you only have to tell us that you want to take part in the pre-registration form. Then, until 13 October you can send us your report, telling us what you would like to study, your motivation… If your project is finally selected, you can shape it as you work.
– Your project can be technological or scientific, or both. All the launch logistics and technology are on us; you won’t have to worry about launching the balloons… One of the 10 places reserved for projects could be yours.
– Need inspiration? Here are some of the projects done previously:
A young citizen scientist presented this project to us in Servet V:
The proposal: In our mission we are going to analyse how different liquids react when their density and temperature change,… outside the test tubes, which are not thermally insulated. Inside the polystyrene probe we will put an Easypix GoXtreme Rebel camera (50 grams).
In the same call, another was the “Potato experiment”, and this is how its promoter presented it to us:
The proposal: Send up one or more tubers to endure the conditions of low temperature, low pressure and radiation for a few hours, recover them and test whether, when cultivated, any has survived and grows into a plant again with new potatoes. The probe will carry at least two Dallas sensors, one inserted into one of the potatoes, and a UV sensor and a barometer that will take samples so we can later work out how long the potato or potatoes were enduring the extreme conditions.
In ServetVI, a school presented “Study of the resistance of Artemia salina cysts”
The proposal: The aim of the study is to assess how extreme variations in temperature, humidity, pressure and UV radiation affect the survival of Artemia salina cysts. Our probe will record the different parameters as it rises through the atmosphere. In addition, a capsule with Artemia salina eggs will be carried on the outside.
You no longer have any excuse not to sign up your class for ServetVIII. We await your applications until 23 September. Don’t hesitate to sign up through the pre-registration form.
