CFA Santiago Rusiñol in La Roca del Vallès (Barcelona)

Our school, CFA Santiago Rusiñol, is a small adult education centre offering courses equivalent to Primary and Secondary and some levels of post-compulsory education. It is unusual in that it is located inside a youth prison and all our students are inmates. In the classroom we try to complement the theoretical side of teaching with practical application; in this sense, SERVET VIII is a unique opportunity to continue with that teaching approach and improve our work as teachers.

Our challenge is to identify the most widely cultivated plant species in the different regions of the world (rice, maize, wheat, cassava, potato, etc.) and to check their germination capacity before and after the trip to the stratosphere. This study will take a cross-curricular approach, including aspects related to biology, geography and mathematics, among others, which will make it easy for us to link it to the educational curriculum.

In addition, we will share our experience and the associated findings through the school website. Finally, we will equip our box with a recording camera that can capture images and, in this way, break preconceived ideas held in some strata of society, such as flat-earthism.
