The Servet #VIII videos: CFA Santiago Rusiñol

In this video the team of students from IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal in Avilés (Asturias) tell us about the progress of their scientific project, which will be launched to the stratosphere as part of the classroom citizen science project #SERVETVIII

Their experiment: “MENSAT-I“

The spread of technology and its development around the world is creating an ever-greater demand for energy. This technological evolution must go hand in hand with a more efficient use of energy sources. In this sense, solar energy is a very promising solution.

Harnessing solar energy, based on the transformation of radiant energy, is more efficient in space missions than in terrestrial applications, mainly because of the composition of the different layers of our atmosphere, which scatter that energy.

With our project MENSAT-I: solar mission we will try to quantify how the performance of solar panels varies with altitude by sending up a stratospheric probe that will study, in addition to the most essential physical quantities (temperature, pressure, etc.), the ability of a solar panel to generate current.

The project team has a website where they will be posting updates on the progress of their experiment.
