In this video the team of students from IES Kursaal in Algeciras (Cádiz) tell us about the progress of their scientific project, which will be launched to the stratosphere as part of the classroom citizen science project #SERVETVIII
Their experiment: “We take hope to the stars”
For this new edition of Servet, we have decided to dedicate our satellite to measuring ionising radiation, since we are carrying out a study on Mars. Ionising radiation is a type of radiation that complicates space missions, as it causes severe deterioration of spacecraft, satellites and people. In addition, we will continue the measurements of grasses that we began last year so that we can compare more data and make our conclusions reflect all the places where we have taken measurements. Our project will also carry sensors that help the mission, such as temperature and humidity, barometric pressure and GPS.
Finally, we have carried out the project under the motto “We take hope to the stars” because we collaborate with the association Por una sonrisa. This organisation works to make hospital stays easier for children with cancer, which is why we are collaborating with them, hoping that building our satellite will cheer these children up.
