In this video the team of students from Compañía de María, in Logroño, La Rioja, tell us about the progress of their scientific project, which will be launched to the stratosphere as part of the classroom citizen science project #SERVETVIII
Their experiment: “A stratospheric wine”
The study of the variations that wine undergoes when exposed to extreme conditions of temperature, pressure and solar radiation. In collaboration with the Marqués de Atrio winery, our students will carry out a first analysis of the wines before the launch, including the calculation of volatile and total acidity, the total polyphenol index, colour intensity and also a microbiological analysis. The wine samples will be placed in capsules that allow them to be exposed to solar radiation on the outside of the probe. The conditions of temperature, humidity and radiation will be measured during the ascent with an Arduino-based device, and the wine samples will also be monitored visually by a camera that will film the ascent. The last step will be the later analysis of the samples in the specialised laboratories of the collaborating winery.
