In this video the team from IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal in Avilés (Asturias) tell us about the progress of their scientific project. The launch will take place in April.
About the experiment: Cosmic Art
From IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal in Avilés we will try to bring science closer to the arts with the project titled MENSAT III: Cosmic ART. Can works of art be created in space?
We wonder how paint will behave in the harsh conditions of the stratosphere and want to be the first to create a work of art aboard a sounding balloon.
Students in the 2nd year of Bachillerato in Science and Art will work together to build a capsule whose main mission will be to make a painting in space. Three primary colours will travel to the stratosphere aboard the sounding balloon, and an electromechanical mechanism, built and programmed by the students themselves, will dispense small amounts of paint to create a cosmic work of art.
An internal camera will document the creation process. Sensors will also be included in the capsule to monitor the changes in temperature, humidity and pressure the paint will be subjected to.
Finally, a radio module will relay the data obtained in real time. Don’t miss the progress of the project, which we will be posting on our Instagram account @_arte.cosmico_
