IES Viera y Clavijo in La Laguna

In recent years, laser communications have been on the rise because of their efficiency; compared with communications via waves (such as radio), they can transmit a larger amount of data in the same time. This is because in laser communications the data is packed into waves with a shorter wavelength than radio. However, laser communications pose a
problem: atmospheric turbulence.
Atmospheric turbulence makes this type of communication difficult because light is refracted as it passes through the atmosphere, which hampers its transmission and accuracy over long distances. That is why the aim of our probe will be to gather enough information about atmospheric conditions to let us build a model of how light would be deflected in such conditions, in order to
correct for refraction and allow more precise optical communication.
