In this video the team of students from IES Peñamayor in Nava, Asturias, tell us about the progress of their scientific project, which will be launched to the stratosphere as part of the classroom citizen science project #SERVETVIII
Their experiment: “Atmospheric hunters”
Our project studies the propagation of sound in different layers of the atmosphere through several experiments. Some studies suggest that near the tropopause sound propagates in a similar way to how it does in the underwater SOFAR channel, discovered in 1940. At a depth of about 750 m, infrasound is able to travel hundreds of km without attenuation, propagating at a minimum speed.
