In this video the team from Institut Roquetes (Tarragona) tell us about the progress of their scientific project. The launch will take place in April.
About the experiment: Gaiasfera
Instituto Roquetes has entered Servet X with the project Gaiasfera and this is how they tell us about it:
The Gaiasfera project is made up of 8 students of the Robotics subject in the 1st year of Bachillerato, and we have set out to send different samples of the bacterium Bacillus cereus (a spore-forming bacterium that causes food poisoning) in Petri dishes to the stratosphere.
We will do it inside a box that we will build later, containing an Arduino UNO board connected to different temperature and pressure sensors with which we will obtain data.
We will share the data obtained with our biology classmates, who will study whether the extreme pressures and temperatures the samples will be subjected to cause the bacterium to die or be unable to reproduce. Their aim is to contribute ideas for possible cold and pressure food treatment systems to prevent food poisoning.
